Hen Party Accessories from HenStuff

Today is May the 4th, which means it's Star Wars Day! If you're a fan of the franchise, we've got some great ideas and inspiration to help you ensure that your star wars hen party is the best in the entire galaxy.

What to Do

There's plenty of fancy dress inspiration out there for a Star Wars hen party, whether you want to wear a conventional character costume, or try something more creative. If you're thinking of going all-girl power, you could dress up as Princess LeiaQueen Amidala or Rey, perhaps keeping one character exclusively for the bride. Throwing a Star Wars themed hen party also allows you to spice up your hen party photos with some cool props, whether that's a novelty lightsabre or your very own Vader mask!

Who said Star Wars and hen parties don't mix well? Awesome DIY idea from Jordan Sparano on Pinterest.

You can't have a hen party without some party games, so make sure you have lots of fun, Star Wars themed activities to keep the group entertained! You could organise an "across the galaxy" themed scavenger hunt, or initiate a competition amongst yourselves to see who can get the funniest or most inappropriate photo of themselves in their costume. You could even play the classic "Pin the bun on Princess Leia", either with a photo prop or live action model...

There's also a drinking game for each of the Star Wars films courtesy of Star Wars Online Universe, which is perfect if you're thinking of hosting a movie marathon at your party.

You can't have a hen party without decorations, although we'll admit that Star Wars themed hen party accessories are a bit hard to come by. Despite the drought on the decoration front, there's no need to worry about having a bland bannerless party, as you can make your very own party decorations thanks to the abundance of ideas available online!

A Death Star piñata would make a great addition to your hen party, especially for those feisty hens with built up anger that they need to let out! You could also create your very own R2-D2 drinks dispenser, so that you can serve up your hen party drinks in style! Of course, no party is complete without balloons, so why not get some regular white balloons and use a sharpie to create your very own Storm-trooper decorations?!? We have to admit, the quality of this last idea depends on how good you are at wielding a sharpie, so make sure you get someone with a bit of an artistic streak to take on this responisbility.

Food and Drink

If you're throwing a Star Wars themed hen party, then you're going to need some appropriately themed snacks and drinks to give your celebrations that extra attention to detail. After all, your hen party spread should be a buffet fit for a Jedi!

Here are a few ideas we found while scouting the internet for inspiration:

The Kylo Ren-tini

Nothing hits the spot on a girls night out quite like a cocktail, so why not whip up a batch that will have you and your friends humming the Cantina Theme before you know it? The Kylo Ren-tini is a fun twist on a well-known classic, and includes one of our very favourite alcoholic beverages to give it that blood red colour - red wine!

You can find out how to make it over at Pop Sugar, where you'll find lots of other Star Wars cocktails to try out with your hens.

BB8 Cupcakes

How much did you all love this cute little droid from the latest film? Although BB8 is the newest addition to our trio of loveable robots, this character already has a special place in our hearts. The BB8 charm translates into just about anything, even cupcakes, which means that a set of these will look super impressive at your Star Wars hen party!

If you want to have a go at making these, head over to Baking Mischeif, where you can find the recipe and instructions!

Hawaiian Themed Hen Party

Spring is here, so if you're thinking of throwing a hen party soon, we've got the perfect theme for you and the rest of the girls - Hawaiian Hen Party! The days are getting longer and warmer (well, warmer than usual), so putting a Hawaiian spin on your hen party is the perfect way to take advantage of this rare occasion. If this is something that interests you, here are a few suggestions to ensure you throw the perfect Hawaiian Themed Hen Party!

The costume:

A Hawaiian costume is really easy to rustle up for your Hawaiian hen party, all you need is a grass skirt, a flowery lei garland and a floral bra. If you're feeling particularly brave, you could always wear a coconut bra too! To add the finishing touches to an almost perfect costume, simply pop a flower hair clip into your hair to add the cherry on top!

What to drink:

Throwing a Hawaiian themed hen party is also a great excuse to drink some fruity, tropical cocktails! If you're thinking of making your very own cocktails, it stands to reason that you're going to need a cocktail shaker. But you can't just have any old cocktail shaker at the hen do; it is your last night of freedom after all! Why not get yourself one of these cheeky Cocktail Shakers instead, which meets the obligatory penis quota while giving you a handy instrument to prepare your cocktails with!
If you're looking for some great cocktail recipes for your Hawaiian Hen Party, you can browse our selection of carefully crafted cocktail of the week recipes here. There's a drink to suit everyone's tastes!

What to do:

If you're throwing a Hawaiian themed hen party, you're going to need some Hawaiian themed hen activities, so why not try your hands at cocktail mixing? The guys at Go Hen have some great 90 minute classes for you and your group. This fantastic package includes the teaching and tasting of several classic cocktails, allowing you to enjoy a fun bonding activity with getting a little tipsy!

Once you've finished the cocktail mixing, you could gather the hens around for a group luau, before heading to your nearest tiki bar, where you can continue to party the night away!

We have another hen party theme for you today! And this time around, we've been inspired by the girls of Orange is the New Black, because this week's theme is... Cops and Robbers! This iconic party theme is one of our favourites, simply due to the fact that there are so many different ways to dress up. There are also plenty of fun activities to get up to, with the option to split the girls up into two teams and get competitive with each other! What's a hen party without a little competitive fun right?

Dressing up:

The main part of a party theme is the fancy dress! Whether you choose to don the old navy blue uniform of the cop, or if you choose to take the bad road and go with the black and white stripped uniform of the robber, with these costumes, you're guaranteed to look the part!

Robbers

A convict is not traditionally thought of as a sexy costume, but times have changed, and this sexy robber costume proves just that! Draped in the iconic black and white stripes, robber costumes allow you to stick with the theme and still look great while doing it!

Cops

Outfits like this naughty cop costume look so good people will be queuing up to commit crimes in the hope that you'll arrest them!

Time to accessorize!

No costume can be complete without a couple of accessories! There's no point dressing up as a cop or robber unless you have handcuffs and a ball and chain, you'll just look silly! Here's a look at some Cop and Robber Hen Party theme accessory inspiration:

Ball and Chain

What is the first thing that pops into your head when you think convict apart from the outfit? A ball and chain! Attach this ball and chain to your ankle to add the finishing touches to your costume!

Baby Pink Handcuffs
What is a police officer without their handcuffs? Pretty useless! Make sure you have a set of these handy, for when someone is causing a bit of mischief and needs to get punished! You can get a pair of these exact handcuffs here at HenStuff.

Police Badge

You're not an official police officer unless you have a badge, those are the rules! So, if you're worried anyone might question your authority, make sure you have one of these polices badges handy to whip out on the spot and prove the doubters wrong.

Activities

You're all dressed up and ready to party, now what? Some fun hen activities of course! Here are some great hen activities, that'll keep all the girls entertained and will get the cops to compete against the robbers to see which side will come out on top.

Drinking games

Jail - This is a great cops and robbers themed drinking game that's bound to cause some laughs and get the drinks flowing! The rules are really simple, all you need is a pack of cards and at least 4 players. You take a regular pack of cards and deal them one at a time to each of the players, then, based on the value of the card, you must do the following:

2, 3 & 4 - Player who gets the cards, drinks the number of the card
Picture Card - Player that received this card gives out 1-4 drinks, where Jack =1 and the Ace =4.
6, 7 & 8 - these cards are neutral
5 - The player that receives this card must go to jail. When in jail, the player must drink whenever someone else drinks. If the player in jail receives another 5, they must drink DOUBLE!
9Nines are the bathroom break card. No one can use the restroom until someone with a nine decides to play this card.
10 - This is a get out of jail free card
Players can trade cards!
For more details check out BarMeister

Cops and Robbers - You simply can't have a Cops and Robbers themed party without playing Cops and Robbers! To play this drinking game you must get all the girls to sit around a table. Take a number of cards out of a deck that is equal to the number of people playing. One of the cards has to be a king, and one of the cards has to be an ace. The other cards can be any combo of numbers people decide on. However, the higher the card number, the greater the chances will be of getting drunk quickly (you'll see why).

  • Pass out a card to each person.
  • Whoever receives the ace is the robber and whoever receives the king is the cop.
  • Once all cards have been passed out, everyone must stare at everyone in the group, waiting to hear the words " the deal has been made" these words will be said once the robber winks at someone.
  • The person who has the king (the cop) is on alert to try to see who the robber is. The cop wants to catch the robber winking at someone. Once "the deal has been made" (the person who is winked at will say this to the group), the cop throws over his card and tries to guess who the robber is (the person who winked).
  • If the cop guesses wrong, then she has to drink the number of drink on the cardholder's card. The game doesn't stop till the cop guesses correctly. For more details on how to play check out DrinksMixer.

Hen Activities

Pub Treasure hunt  - This game is the ultimate combination of treasure hunts and pup crawls, to form the greatest hen activity imaginable! One member from each team must download the game app onto their phone, which will contain all the questions and challenges, unique to your group. You mission is to them follow the clues to each pub where you'll find a series of hilarious challenges. This is still a hen party at the end of the day, so there's plenty of time to have a few drinks at each pub, where you can also compare notes with the opposing team or throw a bit of smack talk about. The team that completes the most challenges in the quickest time will claim the victory and most importantly - the bragging rights!
Click here to book this activity.

Hen Day Challenge - This challenge will have you and all the girls getting really active. You'll take on some incredible challenges in this outdoor centre in Brecon. This Challenge will have you and the girls doing a whole manner of different activities, from climbing and shooting challenges to zooming down a zip wire, in a competitive activity like no other. This outdoor activity will really require you and the rest of the girls to work as a team and try your hardest to become hen day champions!

Go Karting - There's no better white knuckle hen activity than Go- Karting! Which team will have the need for speed and become the overall winner?

While the most talked-about disasters on 'Don't Tell the Bride' are usually dress and venue related, it's easy to forget how many disastrous hen nights have taken place over the course of the show. From terrible budgeting to utterly selfish grooms, the show has produced some truly terrible hen parties over the years, which left us both amused and horrified all at once.

Here are some of the worst:

Andrew and Amanda - All Dressed up With Nowhere to go...

Amanda wanted the typical girly hen night, complete with veils, lashes and cocktails; not too much to ask for surely? Well, Andrew certainly didn't get the memo, because they ended up being sent on a mucky treasure hunt, whilst still in their heels and party frocks.

Rhiana and Rory - Hungry Hens

While the importance of providing yummy food for the hens is always a must, it's probably not the best idea to send them to the bride's favourite Kebab house. While bride Rhiana could appreciate her betrothed's idea, the rest of her hens were less than impressed when the minibus pulled up outside the venue.

Katie and Darnell -  Limo Dreams

Katie and her hens were overjoyed when a great big party limo pulled up outside, expecting to be heading out for a fun-filled night on the tiles. Their expectations soon changed drastically, however, when they spotted the venue that the groom had chosen from them. Instead of drinking and dancing, they ended up spending the evening in a rather subdued bingo hall.

Jay and Ian - Left in the Cold

Although adventure hens can be great fun for some groups, this one fell a bit flat to say the least! While the groom partied in Thailand, the bride was left to complete an outdoor zorbing course in the grand old British rain. While a post-challenge treat may have redeemed the hen, there was no such luck for this group, who ended the day shivering over a cuppa.

Amy and Josh - Better Late Than Never?

Grooms on the show have a habit of leaving things to the last minute, but Josh really took the biscuit on this one, informing Amy of her hen do only three hours in advance! For many hens, this wouldn't even be enough time to get their hair and nails done, let alone plan the entire thing!

Matt and Rian - A Right Balls up

The curse of the selfish groom struck again in this episode, as Matt jetted off to Vegas to enjoy an epic stag with his mates. In contrast, Rian's hen was slightly less extravagant; consisting of a round of crazy golf and a game of bingo. Why grooms seem fixated on the idea of a bingo hen night, we have no idea, but the only bingo we want to be playing is the Drink and Dare kind...

Jessica and Luke - No Monkey Business

While we often encourage hens to try something different on their hen do, this doesn't usually involve cleaning up animal poo... Sadly, this is exactly what Jessica was treated to on her hen, which made for one of the most bizarre parties ever featured on the show.

Jeydene and Luke - Hey Big Spender

In terms of poor thought and poor budgeting, Jeydene's hen party has to be one of the worst we've ever seen on 'Don't Tell the Bride'. The hen cost a grand total on £27, which was spent on a takeaway pizza, and a night at the local playing charades with only £7 left to spend... Again there's nothing wrong with feeding your hens, but a takeaway certainly shouldn't be the highlight of the entire party..

Make sure you have fun on your Hen Party with these fun games:

Hey hens! Today we're bringing you a post inspired by one of our favourite ever hen party themes.. 'Mad Hatter's Tea Party'! Not only does it give you the chance to indulge in some lovely cakes whilst dressed in crazy and colourful clothing, it also allows you to host a quirky hen in almost any location and within any budget. Whether you want to go completely DIY or have someone else take care of the planning, there are lots of ways that you can have a wonderful tea party experience for you and your friends to enjoy!

Dressing Up:

If you're not up for adoring yourself with willies and novelty veils, but still want a chance to dress up, a theme like this one can be a great way for you to keep things colourful but not predictable! We stock quite a few Wonderland themed costumes in our store, so whether you choose to be an army of Alices or a mixture of crazy characters, there should be plenty of costumes and accessories here to choose from.

Browse our costumes here

If full on dress up isn't for you, then why not take your cue from the title and just wear cool and colourful hats instead? We stock a range of hats and headwear like the ones pictured below, so that you can enjoy the party in the comfort of your own clothes, whilst still feeling on-point for the theme.

If you want to add a DIY element to the party, then why not make your own hats as part of the fun? Companies like Glam Hatters' Tea Parties offer several packages which allow you to make your own bespoke headwear, while enjoying a scrumptious afternoon tea! If you're on a budget, you can always get some affordable materials together and make your own hats at home! Check out this tutorial for a velvet Mad Hatter top hat here.

Drinks and Bites:

Food and drink is important to any party, but it's even more important if you're hosting a party with 'tea' in the title! There are loads of lovely baking ideas online, whether you want to stick to an Alice in Wonderland theme, or simply create lots of colourful cakes and bakes to put on display (naturally you'll need a lovely cake stand or two). If you'd like to make your own, our Mad Hatter's Pinterest board will be listed at the end of the post, so you can head there for lots of ideas!

If you'd like to treat yourself to something extra special, why not book your tea party at a hotel or tearoom? If you're heading to the capital for your hen, you can book the 'Mad Hatter's Afternoon Tea' at the Sanderson Hotel, giving you a slightly more up-market version of this kitsch and quirky theme!

Aside from the cakes and finger sandwiches, there are lots of other important things to remember when providing refreshments for your guests. Will your party be alcoholic or booze-free for example? Whether you'll be sipping gin from your teacups or sticking to the traditional cuppa, there are plenty of ways that you can experiment with drink accessories and mixers to fit the theme, so get creative!
We love this Rhubarb and Ginger gin from Edinburgh Gins (yes it really is pink!)

Make sure there are plenty of colourful sweets to keep everyone snacking, and to add to the colourful theme. You can browse our full selection here. These cute little mason shot glasses are also great if you're planning on making this an Irish tea too; why not adorn them with little 'Drink Me' signs?

Decorate to Celebrate:

No Mad Hatter's Tea would be complete without some cool and quirky decoration, and we have loads of ideas from our store and Pinterest to share with you! If you're going all-out, then clocks and card decks should be a dominant theme throughout your decor, along with cats, hats and other elements from the famous tale! You can always tone down how 'Lewis Carroll' or 'Tim Burton' your party is, and could always opt for a more traditional tea party decoration style if you wish.

As always, bunting will add a lovely, traditional, vintage touch to your party, and like many other elements can be made or bought!

Whether you want to add some queen of hearts sparkle or child-like craziness to your 'unbirthday' cake, we have lots of fun decorations to choose from in our store, like these cute crayon candles! We also stock these nifty little arrows, which, whilst being useful for your guests, also provide a fun little nod to the confused directions Alice follows in the story.

If you really want to take things up a level, then you should most certainly visit the Wonderland House in Brighton. The venue can sleep a large group of up to 24 hens, and provides the perfect space to entertain indoors, as well as providing a base camp to explore from!
